New partnerships and government-backed investments across Europe, Asia, and North America show just how global and fast-moving the chip ecosystem has become.

 

1. Semiconductor Market Surpasses $200 Billion Quarterly Revenue, On Track for $800 Billion in 2025

Global semiconductor revenue hit $216.3 billion in Q3 2025, up 14.5% from Q2 — the first time the industry crossed the $200 billion mark in a single quarter. Growth was strongest in AI and memory but extended across most product categories. Analysts now expect the market to exceed $800 billion next year, signaling broad recovery and sustained demand.


 

2. Siemens and GlobalFoundries Launch AI-Driven Semiconductor Manufacturing Collaboration

Siemens and GlobalFoundries are joining forces to integrate AI-based automation into chip manufacturing. The partnership focuses on predictive maintenance, process control, and energy-efficient production across fabs in the US, Europe, and Asia. The goal is to improve reliability, cut downtime, and strengthen global supply chains for next-generation semiconductors.


 

3. Qualcomm Acquires Ventana Micro Systems to Expand RISC-V Capabilities

Qualcomm acquired Ventana Micro Systems, a RISC-V specialist based in Cupertino, to boost its custom CPU engineering and expand use of open-architecture chiplets. The Ventana team will contribute to future Oryon CPU designs aimed at high-performance, low-power computing for next-gen devices.


 

4. UMC Licenses imec Silicon Photonics Technology for 12-Inch Platform

UMC licensed imec’s iSiPP300 silicon photonics process to build a 12-inch platform for co-packaged optics. The technology enables faster, lower-latency data links for optical transceivers and AI servers. Risk production is planned for 2026-27 as data centers move toward full optical I/O integration.


 

5. Imec Demonstrates 2D-Material FET Integration Breakthroughs at IEDM 2025

Imec achieved record results for 2D-material p-type transistors using monolayer WSe₂, advancing logic scaling beyond 2 nm. In collaboration with TSMC and Intel, imec also unveiled manufacturable 300 mm modules for 2D-FET integration—key steps toward future ultra-thin, high-efficiency logic devices.


 

6. QuantWare Unveils VIO-40K Architecture for 10,000-Qubit Quantum Processors

QuantWare introduced VIO-40K, a new architecture that scales quantum processors up to 10,000 qubits using 3D chiplets and 40,000 I/O lines. The company is building Kilofab, a dedicated quantum chip fab in the Netherlands, to begin production by 2026 and support industrial-scale quantum systems.


 

7. MicroAlign Achieves 24-Channel Fiber Arrays for Quantum Photonics

MicroAlign doubled optical-fiber array density to 24 channels with 100-nanometer alignment precision — a major leap for quantum photonic computing. The breakthrough reduces optical loss and improves coupling accuracy, critical for scalable quantum interconnects and sensing applications.


 

8. NVIDIA Accelerated Computing Platforms Drive AI Scaling Laws

NVIDIA GPUs now power 85% of the world’s top supercomputers, delivering 4.5× better energy efficiency than CPUs. New benchmarks confirm GPUs as the backbone of AI training and inference, while NVIDIA’s “scaling laws” framework shows how compute demand is set to keep rising through larger models and autonomous systems.


 

9. Xanadu Expands Quantum Collaboration with A*STAR in Singapore

Xanadu Quantum Technologies and A*STAR will co-develop photonic quantum computing labs and packaging solutions in Singapore. The partnership focuses on error correction, quantum light sources, and integrated photonics, positioning Singapore as a regional center for quantum hardware research and commercialization.


 

10. IQE Extends Strategic Supply Agreement with Lumentum for Advanced Sensing

IQE renewed its multi-year supply deal with Lumentum, providing VCSEL epi-wafers for 3D sensing, LiDAR, and in-cabin automotive systems. The agreement supports growing demand for high-performance photonics used in consumer and industrial devices.


 

11. IonQ Deploys Slovakia’s First National Quantum Communication Network

IonQ and the Slovak Academy of Sciences launched Slovakia’s first quantum communication network, connecting government and research sites with quantum key distribution and post-quantum encryption. The project joins the EU’s broader EuroQCI initiative for secure data infrastructure.


 

12. Rivian Introduces Custom Silicon and AI Autonomy Platform

Rivian revealed its first in-house chip, the RAP1 processor, built on 5 nm technology to power hands-free driving and next-gen vehicle intelligence. It delivers 1,600 TOPS and will debut in 2026 R2 models as part of a new subscription-based autonomy suite.


 

13. EU Approves €623 Million German Aid for Two Semiconductor Facilities

The EU cleared €623 million in state aid for GlobalFoundries and X-FAB to expand fabs in Dresden and Erfurt. The projects support Europe’s Chips Act goals and bring total approved EU semiconductor funding to about €13 billion.


 

14. UK and Canada Collaborate on Optical Engine for Sustainable AI Data Centers

UK and Canadian research teams are developing a co-packaged optical engine to cut AI data center power use and improve bandwidth. The project connects UK design and Canadian manufacturing expertise to build a transatlantic supply chain for photonics.


 

15. Korea Targets Tenfold Growth in Fabless Industry and Global Leadership

Korea announced a plan to invest over 700 trillion won by 2047 to grow its fabless sector tenfold and build 10 new fabs. The strategy includes major funding for AI, memory, and packaging R&D, plus a Semiconductor Graduate University to train 300 specialists each year.


 

16. EIB and STMicroelectronics Sign €1 Billion Financing Agreement

STMicroelectronics secured up to €1 billion from the European Investment Bank to boost manufacturing in Italy and France. Funds will expand SiC production for EV and energy-efficient applications while strengthening Europe’s semiconductor supply base.


 

17. ASM Opens $100 Million Innovation Center in Hwaseong

ASM opened a $100 million facility in Korea to advance Atomic Layer Deposition and epitaxy technologies for 2 nm and DRAM nodes. The site adds cleanroom capacity and engineering jobs, deepening Korea’s role in the company’s global R&D network.


 

18. US Approves NVIDIA H200 AI Chip Sales to China Under Conditions

The US government approved NVIDIA to sell H200 AI chips to selected Chinese customers under strict security rules. More advanced Blackwell and Rubin models remain restricted. The move follows talks between President Trump and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.


 

19. Broadcom Reports Record Quarter Driven by AI Semiconductor Growth

Broadcom posted record Q4 revenue of $18 billion (+28% YoY) and full-year sales of $63.9 billion. AI chip revenue rose 74% and is expected to double again next quarter, powered by custom accelerators and Ethernet switches for large AI clusters.


 

20. TSMC Reports NT$343.6 Billion Revenue for November 2025

TSMC recorded NT$343.6 billion ($10.8 billion) in November revenue, up 24.5% year-on-year despite a 6.5% monthly dip. Year-to-date sales grew 33%, driven by high-performance computing and AI demand, keeping TSMC firmly ahead in advanced node production.
